Tue, 04 Mar, 2008
Newcastle Airport has been awarded the title of Company of the Year at the Tyneside and Northumberland heat of the North East Business Awards 2007.
The airport beat a number of businesses including Merit Process Engineering and Northumbria University for the award.
Graeme Mason, head of planning and corporate affairs at Newcastle Airport, commented: "The aviation industry is an amazing industry to work in.
"It's extremely volatile, but generates passion among the people working there and I would like to dedicate the award to the team at Newcastle Airport."
Passenger figures for the airport rose to a record figure of 5.7 million last year.
The airport also boasts flights to 85 different destinations in four continents, with the company stating that there are now more flights every hour than there were per day in 1966.
With the announcement that Flybe will be setting up base at the airport, the airport is continuing to expand and looks well on its way to reaching its target of 9.5 million visitors by 2016.
