Ryanair considering charging for toilet use

Fri, 27 Feb, 2009

Passengers of Ryanair may need to spend a penny in the most literal way if the budget airline implements the latest plans it is considering.

Michael O'Leary, chief executive of Ryanair, told the BBC that the company is thinking about charging people for using the toilet while in the air.

This would be done by means of a coin slot in the door and could require a pound to be spent.

Consumer group Which? criticised the idea.

Rochelle Turner, head of research for Which? Holiday, told the BBC: "Charging people to go to the toilet might result in fewer people buying overpriced drinks on board though – that would serve Ryanair right."

A non-fiction book by Paul Kilduff, Ruinair, has just been published by Harper Collins after previously being published in Ireland by Gill & Macmillan.

Giving an account of Mr Kilduff's inexpensive travels all over Europe, Ruinair was inspired after he suffered a ten-hour delay on a Ryanair flight to Spain.
