George Best Belfast City Airport 'introduces pick-up surcharge'
Thu, 30 Apr, 2009
George Best Belfast City Airport has introduced a surcharge for people being transported in a taxi, according to a report.
From today, anyone who gets into one of the vehicles at the door of the facility will have a £1 fee added to their fare, BBC News has said.
Normal motorists will also not be able to drop-off or collect people from the bay outside the terminal.
Announcing the move, an airport spokesman told the news provider: "Signage will be placed at the taxi rank and within all Belfast City Airport Ltd taxis, explaining that the £1 charge is being imposed by the airport to re-coup infrastructure costs".
Drivers who choose an airport parking option would not need to pay this charge.
The hub is named after the famous footballer, who played for Manchester United and the country's national team during the 1970s.
He died in 2005 after suffering a multiple organ failure.
