Airport parking in Southampton could be busy for bank holiday

Airport parking is likely to be in high demand in Southampton this weekend as a result of the summer bank holiday.

Southampton Airport has predicted that it will see more than 23,000 people jet off to destinations around the UK and abroad over the three-day break.

Looking at its flight bookings, the regional hub suggested that Edinburgh, Jersey, Guernsey, Dublin, Glasgow, Belfast, Amsterdam, Newcastle, Manchester and Alicante are the most popular destinations for people departing.

Jan Halliday, director of marketing at Southampton Airport, said that travellers parking their cars and boarding a plane will have 45 different destinations to choose from this weekend.

"We are also likely to see many visitors to this region especially from France, Germany and Holland, who are taking advantage of the euro exchange rate and holidaying in the south," she added.

As a result of the anticipated rush, the airport urged visiting passengers to get their cars parked with at least one hour set aside for check-in before their flights.

Last week, officials from John Lennon Airport in Liverpool confirmed that it has contingency plans in place to deal with industrial action being taken by baggage handlers.
