Bournemouth Airport launches carbon offsetting scheme

Wed, 09 Sep, 2009

Airline passengers parking at Bournemouth Airport will now be able to take part in a carbon offsetting scheme.

Thanks to a new link on the airport's website, travellers will now be given the option of offsetting carbon emissions from their flights by paying for equivalent emissions savings or reductions elsewhere.

Commenting on the initiative, managing director of Bournemouth Airport Rob Goldsmith said: "We're taking a proactive role within the airline industry to make CO2 emission reductions already, but as a group we want to support the work of our airline partners and help encourage passengers to use a carbon off-set scheme."

Three airlines using Bournemouth Airport, Thomson, First Choice and easyJet, already offer carbon offsetting to passengers.

Manchester Airports Group, of which Bournemouth is a part, hopes to become carbon neutral by 2012.

Last November, Bournemouth was ranked as the best airport in the UK by the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards.
