Newcastle Airport gains Channel Islands link

Sun, 31 Jan, 2010

Newcastle Airport is set to get a new route to the Channel Islands this summer.

Flybe has announced that it is to being flying two journeys a week from the north-east hub to Guernsey.

Flying on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the flights will commence on July 10th, departing Newcastle at 14:50 GMT.

The service will operate throughout the summer months, with the final one-and-a-half-hour trip back north leaving the islands at 10:30 GMT on August 31st.

Chris Sanders, head of aviation development at Newcastle International Airport, said: "It opens up new holiday opportunities from the north-east for short breaks and longer stays this summer."

He added that, as a tax-free destination, the Channel Islands offer a good value holiday for people who want to stay close to home.

This is the latest in a series of flights to be run by Flybe from regional airports across the country, with Exeter Airport recently benefitting from a new service to Hanover.
