John Lennon Airport 'one of the UK's busiest hubs'
Fri, 12 Mar, 2010
Liverpool John Lennon Airport has been named as one of the UK's top ten busiest travel hubs for the first time by Airline Network News & Analysis.
In 1995, when it was known as Liverpool Airport, it ranked 20th in the country and was up to 14th a decade ago.
Mark Whitworth, chief executive at owner Peel Airports Group, suggested he was delighted with progress it has made since his organisation took over in 1997.
"When Peel first invested ... we were the UK's 18th largest airport and to now break into the top ten for the first time is a tremendous achievement for all involved," he remarked.
And further rises could be on the cards for the site, with passenger numbers expected to increase in 2010.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines recently announced it was to launch a fourth daily flight from Liverpool John Lennon to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands.
