New restaurant opens at Southampton Airport
Fri, 12 Mar, 2010
Southampton Airport has marked the 74th anniversary of the first spitfire flight by opening a new restaurant.
The new eatery has been named Mitchell's Bar and Restaurant after the local aircraft designer who constructed and first tested the legendary model.
Kevin Brown, the airport's managing director, commented: "I think he would be proud to know that the grass airfield he tested his prototype aircraft on is now an internationally renowned, award-winning regional airport celebrating 100 years of flight."
The brasserie-style restaurant serves up everything from all-day breakfasts to tapas dishes and sandwiches.
A new Costa Coffee outlet has also recently opened at the airport, where passengers can enjoy a range of drinks, pastries and paninis.
In other travel news, a recent survey by Holiday Extras found that the majority of travellers support the introduction of airport body scanners.
Only six per cent of respondents claimed the machines are too invasive.
