Eurozone Brits gain over 700 million of extra holiday spends
Wed, 11 Aug, 2010
The pound's recent strengthening will give British holidaymakers a much needed spending boost this summer, according to new figures from Currencies.co.uk.
However, many people are letting the opportunity slip by as they fail to get the best deal on their exchange rate.
It is estimated the 13 million Brits that are expected to holiday in Europe this year will spend around 700 each over the course of their holiday.
When compared with last year's rates, holidaymakers this year will see an extra 56 (46) each.
This benefit may be lost by people who choose to withdraw their euros from cash machines overseas, which may inflict multiple charges.
In addition, figures indicate that over 300,000 people plan to buy their currency at the airport, losing out to high commissions and poor exchange rates.
Director of Currencies.co.uk Stephen Hughes said of the findings: "Brits holidaying in eurozone countries will feel much better off after the painful experiences of 2009."
The results come after last month saw the European Parliament approve new regulations on maritime passenger rights.
