Manchester Airport tops Twitter rankings

A new survey has found Manchester Airport to be the world's premier airport on Twitter.
The study, conducted by social media firm AirGate Solutions, discovered that of the 143 airports currently using Twitter as an official passenger service, Manchester Airport was the most active and engaged of all.
Rankings were calculated by assessing the ratio of airport passengers to Twitter followers and saw London's Heathrow Airport come a close second.
Managing director of AirGate Solutions Robert Cook explained how there had been an increase in the number of airports adopting Twitter as a service since last year.
He said of the results: "Manchester came out on top in the 20 million passenger category, which demonstrates that the airport is using [Twitter] to a very good effect."
Head of the airport's external communications Russell Craig claimed it was "fantastic" to receive the recognition. He explained how Twitter had become a "vital" channel for communicating to passengers.
The news comes after the airport opened a new £1.7 million Escape Lounge in Terminal 1.
