Manchester Airport's latest figures 'positive sign' for market
Mon, 06 Sep, 2010
Despite falling passenger numbers, Manchester Airport has reported that August marked its best monthly performance for 2010.
The Manchester Evening News reports that over two million passengers passed through its terminals during August, marking a 2.82 per cent decline on the same period last year.
But commercial director for the airport Andrew Harrison welcomed the figures, attributing the monthly boost in passengers to an influx of visitors to the region's various festivals.
"We were very close to repeating last year's passenger figures and that is another positive sign for the resurgence in the market," he told the publication.
Earlier this month, the first Emirates A380 double-decker Airbus touch down at Manchester Airport, wowing a crowd of thousands who turned up specially to view the spectacle for themselves.
These latest figures also indicated an increased number of passengers flew on international services during August than in the previous year, despite a drop in domestic and charter flights.
