Birmingham Airport to undergo rebranding
Fri, 10 Sep, 2010
Birmingham Airport is to drop the word International from its title as part of an ongoing rebranding exercise.
Trade Travel Gazette reports that midlands-based agency Connect has been appointed to oversee the rebranding, which aims to enhance the airport's prestige among the local population.
Head of brand for the airport Jo Lloyd said Birmingham has already got a large amount of spare capacity to cater for extra passengers further growth is due after the construction of a new runway, scheduled to be completed by 2014.
"We believe that we are being overlooked or forgotten, especially by those living in the region, despite offering a central location, a wide range and mix of airlines and destinations," she told the publication.
The announcement comes in the wake of statistics which revealed that Birmingham Airport is out-performing many other UK airports, despite a drop in overall passenger numbers.
Ms Lloyd went on to claim that, although many passengers in the south-east could reach the Birmingham Airport in the same time it takes them to travel to Heathrow, a change of identity would be needed for this to occur.
