Wed, 29 Sep, 2010

As part of the Mayor of Eastleigh's official Civic Day celebrations, mayors and chairpersons from councils across the county of Hampshire have visited Southampton Airport.

Mayor of Eastleigh councillor John Caldwell highlighted the importance of the airport to the region.

"We are very proud of the airport and of its significance, not just to the borough, but to the wider region. It was good to see the improvements recently made," he said.

Each of the guests received an official Southampton Airport teddy bear as a welcome gift and were also given a behind the scenes tour of its facilities, which included an introduction to the airport's specialist fire service.

Earlier in the month, the airport unveiled a new community fund, which aims to help local projects by supplying funding of over £30,000 per year.

Director of marketing and communications at the airport Jan Halliday welcomed the opportunity to show all that the airport has to offer officials from the region.
