Newcastle International Airport given car park safety award
Mon, 11 Oct, 2010
Newcastle International Airport has been granted a prestigious award in recognition of the safety of its car parks.
Given by the temporary chief constable of Northumbria Police Sue Sim, the Park Mark Safer Parking Award was presented to airport chief executive Dave Laws.
He welcomed the award, stating that passenger security has always been a "top priority" for Newcastle International Airport.
"The Park Mark accreditation is particularly desirable as it acts as a strong deterrent to criminal activity thus giving passengers the confidence that their vehicle will be safe," Mr Laws said.
Development manager of the Safer Parking Scheme Phil Taylor commended the airport on its recent spate of expansive improvements to its car parking facilities, calling them "virtually crime free".
Earlier in the year, as part of its commitment to environmentally sound travel, Newcastle International Airport took on a new battery-powered platform tug, designed to aid the turnaround time of short haul airlines.
