East Midlands Airport to receive Jet2 boost

Tue, 23 Nov, 2010

East Midlands Airport will see flights from budget airline Jet2 doubled as part of an expansion drive by the company.

The carrier announced its second record-breaking summer reason in a row and revealed that nearly three million passengers have been catered for over the period.

BBC News reports that Jet2 plans to add another Boeing 757, in addition to a further 39 staff at East Midlands Airport.

This comes as part of a total of 600 new jobs which the company plans to create, as well as bolstering its fleet with four more aeroplanes.

Jet2 boss Philip Meeson expressed excitement for 2011 and claimed that the carrier has had a "very successful" year, despite economic setbacks.

"We put this down to our friendly service and the popularity of our convenient flight times, 22kg baggage allowance and allocated seats and points for free flights that reward our loyal customers," he said.

Earlier in the month, the airport revealed the supporting role it would play in this year's 2011 Miss Sunderland competition.
