Liverpool Airport receives new Gibraltar route
Fri, 26 Nov, 2010
Holidaymakers flying from Liverpool Airport now have the option of travelling to Gibraltar.
A new route connecting the north-west city with the British territory on the south coast of Spain has been revealed by easyJet.
The budget airline is set to commence flights on March 29th 2011, with three journeys a week planned.
It is the first time that a flight to Gibraltar has been scheduled to depart from Liverpool Airport.
Ali Gayward, UK commercial manager at easyJet, said: "Famed for its fantastic 426-metre high rock and steeped in history, Gibraltar offers a great mix of Spanish and British cultures with the benefit of the Mediterranean climate."
The new route brings the total number of destinations that travellers can visit with easyJet from the airport to 33, including Salzburg, Tallinn and Brussels.
Local schools were recently invited to get involved with the fun of decorating the airport this Christmas and perform carol concerts for passengers travelling through.
