Budget airline offers iPad to passengers

Tue, 30 Nov, 2010

A budget airline, which makes regular flights from London's Gatwick Airport, will be the first European carrier to offer Apple's iPad to passengers on its flights.

Iceland Express will give travellers the chance to use the high-tech equipment on all its transatlantic journeys and has revealed plans to roll out the service to the rest of its fleet in 2011.

E-commerce manager for the carrier Georg Haraldsson said that the iPad was a natural progression from its popular entertainment units, offered to travellers on short-haul flights.

"We don't want our passengers to be limited to watching a film on a small screen," he said. "The iPad is 9.56 x 7.47 inches, so our customers won't be straining their eyes."

Passengers can rent the equipment from £9 and the iPad has a ten-hour duration.

Iceland Express offers low far connections to a range of European destinations, including France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany.
