Glasgow Airport adopts new flight-data management tech

Thu, 02 Dec, 2010

Glasgow Airport has opted to adopt a new flight-data management system.

The technology, provided by NAV Canada, is now in use in eight airports throughout the UK and Glasgow has become the third Scottish facility to purchase the product in 2010, the Ottawa Business Journal reports.

By using the system, air traffic controllers can manage flight data via a touch screen interface. It will replace outdated methods such as using strips of paper to keep track of flights.

Mike Culver, general manager of NATS, the UK's current traffic management service, at Glasgow Airport welcomed the new system, known as the Electronic Flight Progress System (EFPS) in Britain.

"EFPS not only gives efficiency benefits now, but also provides a great foothold for future development and growth," he said.

This comes after Glasgow Airport received an Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre champion award for its work with the city's premier business venue.
