Glasgow Airport receives extra capacity for Canada flights

Fri, 03 Dec, 2010

Scotland's Glasgow Airport is to receive additional capacity for its services to Canada during summer 2011.

Canadian Affair, one of the UK's largest tour operators to the country, has scheduled an extra 10,000 seats.

In addition to this 30 per cent increase in capacity, the firm will also charter larger planes for its flights in summer 2011.

Communication and marketing director for Canadian Affair Kathryn Munro revealed the massive number of holidaymakers opting for trips to Canada.

"Scottish travellers have voted with their passports this year and record numbers have taken our flights and holidays to Canada," she said. "We're substantially increasing our [capacity]."

Earlier in the month, the Ottawa Business Journal revealed that Glasgow Airport had become the third Scottish facility to take up the use of its flight-data management systems.

Known as the Electronic Flight Progress System, the new technology allows air traffic controllers to manipulate information via a touch screen interface.
