Robin Hood Airport sees growth in passenger numbers
Tue, 25 Jan, 2011
Sheffield's Robin Hood Airport has reported figures which indicate a rise in the number of passengers it catered for last year.
Statistics show that during 2010, the number of travellers passing through the facility's gates increased by five per cent on the previous 12 months.
Robin Hood Airport attributed this increase to growing demand for services provided by Wizz Air and Flybe.
Director of the facility Mike Morton welcomed the report's findings as "fantastic news", particularly in light of the issues faced by the travel industry last year.
"Severe weather conditions at the beginning and end of the year and the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland had a major impact on travel in and out of the UK," he said.
Mr Morton went on to highlight the range of new services beginning in 2011, making particular note of offerings from Ryanair, Wizz Air and Holidays4U.
Earlier in the month, bosses from Robin Hood Airport spoke to local travel agents and promoted Thomas Cook's expanded range of holidays, which depart directly from the facility.
