Birmingham Airport merges terminals

Thu, 10 Feb, 2011

Birmingham Airport has merged its two terminals in order to improve efficiency.

BBC News reports that passengers will now pass through one facility for all arrivals and departures, in addition to being processed through a combined security area and checked in via self service and manned desks.

Similarly, all inbound travellers will now be funnelled into a single meeting area upon their arrival to the hub.

Will Heynes, director of operations at Birmingham Airport, claimed that the move puts the facility in a "stronger position" in terms of attracting new customers and showcasing its position as "the region's global gateway".

"Our goal for 2011 is to improve the passenger experience and this project will create a smoother journey through the terminal and improve our overall efficiency," he said.

Earlier in the month, bosses at Birmingham Airport hailed figures that indicated the first monthly passenger rise at the facility for nearly two years.
