Beauty product essentials for long haul flights

Travelling on long haul flights can cause havoc with your body clock, not to mention your skin.

Thanks to the mixture of air conditioning, dehydration, lack of or disturbed sleep, anxiety and stress you may feel on a plane, your skin will bare the brunt of it, and unfortunately show it in all its glory once you land at your destination. However, with a few beauty essentials in your carry on, you can now arrive feeling relaxed and looking your best.

Take off

First things first, once you have taken off and you're all settled, it's a good idea to take your make up off and cleanse your skin. Cleansing face wipes are great to take with you in your hand luggage because they're easy to store and easy to use - just one quick wipe over your face will remove your make up and leave your skin fresh. If you don't wear makeup when travelling it is still a good idea to cleanse your face to get rid of any dirt and grime, as well as keeping your face clean and fresh.

Carrying a facial spray is another good idea on the flight, particularly one with hydrating, moisturising ingredients to give your skin a little boost. There are plenty to choose from and they come in mini travel sizes too, so you're sure to find one that fits within the carry on liquid restrictions.

These sprays can be used as often as you wish, and will help to cool you down and rehydrate your skin, giving you that instant fresh feeling throughout the flight. Once you have taken your make up off with the wipes you can give your face a quick spritz before applying a moisturiser.

In terms of moisturiser, using the one you use everyday is fine, but you may want to switch to a moisturising mask that you can leave on and not worry about tissuing off. Most of these masks are a clear texture and appearance, so there is no need to worry about receiving funny looks from fellow passengers. They are great at providing intense moisturisation to help stop you from looking tired after a long flight, and can help treat a dry complexion due to the loss of moisture while on a plane - normally caused by the air conditioning blowing in your face.

Don't forget your delicate eye area, which will show up your tiredness the most. Again, there are many eye masks and eye creams you can use to help rehydrate this area, and to help reduce puffiness and dark circles. Always carry a hydrating lip balm and hand cream with you to apply as many times as you like, as your lips and hands tend to get forgotten about and become dry and sore.

Before you land

Should you wish to apply make up before you land then there are a few beauty products that would benefit you. A hydrating cc cream would be great, to give you that extra, moisturising radiance, along with a nude colour eyeliner to place on the inner rims of your eyes and mascara to help make you look more awake and fresh. Add a little bronzer to your face for a pre-holiday glow and you are good to go.

A few other beauty essentials to take with you include hand sanitiser, tissues, a mini hairbrush, hair ties, a small bottle of perfume, and your toothbrush and toothpaste.

Pop all these into a clear plastic bag so security at the airport can see what you have, and make sure that all of your pastes, liquids and creams fit within the hand luggage restrictions. Plus, keeping them all in a bag will make it easier for you to find once you're in your seat.
